Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø (trombone and electronics) and Viola Yip (self-built instruments and electronics) met in Berlin a few years back, and are currently developing a duo project based on this unique instrument combination. With a common will to bend and extend the characteristics of acoustic and electronic sound matter, Viola and Henrik make their music from complex timbral and textural patterns performed in an unpretentiously virtuosic manner. Henrik contextualizes the boundaries and reach of the trombone through nuanced microphone technique combined with analog electronics and sound files. Meanwhile, Viola utilizes her feedback dress and other self imagined instruments, exploring a wide array of touch, pressure and movements of her body that alters the sound through physicality and modulations of electromagnetic fields.
Viola and Henrik have both been active as performers/sound artists for a couple of decades, with performances at festivals/venues like CTM festival, Maerzmusik and A l’arme! festival in Berlin, Moers festival, Huddersfield contemporary music festival (UK), Citadelic festival (Ghent), Seanaps festival (Leipzig), Akademie der Künste (Berlin), Festival für Immaterielle Kunst (Hamburg), Gare du Nord (basel), Hong Kong Arts Center, Constellation (Chicago), the Stone and Issue Project Room (NYC).
